Dear Science Club Sponsor: Is your school experiencing the advantages of participating it the Alabama Junior Academy of Science (AJAS)?

What is AJAS?

What is AJAS? - AJAS is an organization that functions under the Alabama Academy of Science and the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS), whose purpose is to encourage high school student science research. This activity culminates in paper competition at the local, regional, state, national, and international levels. Winners at the regional level receive an expense paid trip to the state competition; winners at the state level receive and expense paid trip to the national meeting. The top three finalists for Alabama receive tuition scholarships, awarded at $2000.00, $1500.00, and $1000.00. The top two finalists are invited to participate at the National JSHS Symposium and compete for more scholarship money.

Who is eligible to join AJAS?

The students and sponsors of any public or private (including home school) high school science club are eligible to join AJAS as a club.

What are the primary activies of AJAS

  1. Science research under the guidance and direction of high school teachers and other science knowledgeable persons. This research can lead to a science fair project and a science paper for AJAS.
  2. Science paper competition in the areas of Biology, Mathematics, Engineering, Physical Science, and the Humanities. Regional winners earn an expense paid trip to the State Competition. The First Place winners in the state earn an expense paid trip to the National competition.
  3. Interaction with other science students, teachers, and scientists at the local, regional and state levels.
